A total of 26 species of butterfly have been recorded up to date on Halsey Field, many of which breed on the field or on nettle patches nearby. 24 of these species are listed in the transect summary below, the exceptions being the Clouded Yellow which is a summer visitor and the Green Hairstreak, which was seen on the site in 2019 and 2020, but not in 2021. The first 9 species in the summary list are day flying moths.

A butterfly transect is walked every week from April till October on Halsey Field. The field is divided into sections and the butterfly species and numbers of those species are noted in each section. All this information is entered on the Butterfly Conservation website.
